Let me start with some back story. In November, I had a girls trip with my friend Emily. We went down to St. George and did the Snow Canyon Half Marathon and 5K. She did the half and I did the 5K. We had a blast. We were looking through the other St George races and I saw the SHAC Triathlon. I thought to myself I want to do that. I hit Emily up and she agreed. I told Wes about it and he said he would do it too. I was way excited. We started in January and wow was I sore. My training schedule was something like this: Monday and Thursday swim, Tuesday bike, Wednesday run, Friday bike, Saturday run. This entailed early morning training especially for the swim. We did this for 3 MONTHS. I was SO burnt out.
Day of triathlon I was super nervous. I knew the swim would be no big deal and the run would be ok. I was freaking out about the bike. The swim was at an indoor pool which I was super glad about.
Swim: I felt pretty good during the swim. I had a little bit of trouble towards the end but I think it was because I started out to fast. When I was done, trying to jump out of the pool was hilarious. My arms were so tired I could barely lift myself out.
Bike: Well here came what I was most worried about. I climb on and very first thing is a hill! We did two laps of the course. I remember reading the description of the course "mostly flat with a few hills." Not so much. It was very hilly and some of the hills were really steep. When I came around to do my second lap, I remember seeing Spencer and telling him I was going to throw up and I still had one lap to go plus run. When i hopped off my bike at the transition area, I could hardly walk. My legs were jello. I was dreading the run.
Run: My legs were so not working for the entire first lap. To top that off, at the very beginning, big hill! I was just telling myself, you can do this! Most memorable thing about the run, on my second lap almost done, I hear my name being yelled. I look over and there is Lisa, Aunt Leann, and Ty. That made the whole race. I just worked so hard to get to the end after that.
Finish: Getting to the finish line and seeing Spencer, Wes, Emily, and Ryan was so awesome. I was dead and telling myself that was the hardest thing I've ever done and I would never do another one!
So now looking back, very hard but I would probably do another one.
Here is how I finished:
Swim 400 Yards: 10:02(very happy with)
Transition 1: 2:41
Bike 10 Miles: 49:25(I was hoping for better)
Transition 2: 3:15
Run 3 Miles: 29:24 (very happy with)
Total Time: 1 hr 34 min 48 sec Only 4 minutes off my goal time. Really happy with for my first time!
Wes and I headed out on our bike.
Coming in!
FINISHED!
We Did It!
Way to go Amber! That is seriously awesome!!! I wish I could do that....you are super woman!!!
ReplyDeleteYES WE DID!!!! What makes this even better is that we don't have to jump in mirky pool water at 6:00am with angry old people not sharing their lanes and hitting us with their paddles! BTW...you did awesome!
